Domestic vs International Lounge Access in India, Explained
Indian card benefits treat domestic and international lounge access as two separate entitlements, with different networks, different counters and different visit limits. Mixing them up is the single most common reason travellers get turned away.
Two different networks
Domestic access usually runs through a domestic lounge programme tied to your card network, validated by swiping the card at the lounge desk. International access typically runs through a membership programme such as Priority Pass, which must be issued and activated separately by your bank.
Visit limits rarely match
A card can offer unlimited domestic visits and only two international visits a year. The international allowance is often shared with add-on cardholders, so a partner's visit counts against the same pool.
Check the zone, not just the terminal
Some Indian airports run domestic and international lounges inside the same terminal. The lounge you can reach depends on the departure zone you clear security into, so always check the zone shown on the lounge listing.
Common questions
- Does Priority Pass work at Indian domestic lounges?
- At some, but not all. Domestic acceptance is decided lounge by lounge, so check the individual lounge listing rather than assuming network-wide coverage.
- Do I need to activate my international lounge membership?
- Usually yes. Most banks require you to request the membership in the app or netbanking before it can be used, and activation can take a few days.
Check your own card
Save your cards once and every lounge page will show whether that card is listed for free entry — or buy verified access for a single visit when it is not.
